The slicing process follows the 3D modeling phase, in order to let the printer obtain layer properties of the part. As it is the case with the modeling tools, the slicer can also be either free or commercial. Generally, the assembled and trademarked 3D printers have their own commercial slicing software while the open-source printers’ slicers can usually be downloaded free.
