Autodesk, supplier of 3D-design-, engineering- and entertainmentsoftware, develops an open softwareplatform for 3D-printing. The software named Spark, makes printing of 3D-models easier and more reliable. In addition Autodesk develops their own 3D-printer. The printer demonstrates the features and possibilities of Spark and offers a whole new user-experience. The software and printer are forming the building stones for designers, hardware-manufacturers, software-developers and material scientists to explore the boundaries of 3D-printing technology.
“For many years i have been fascinated by de promissing technology of 3D-printing, but at the same time i have been frustrated by the reality”, says Carl Bass, CEO of Autodesk.
In order to bring 3D-printen closer to us more quickly, Autodesk will introduce Spark and the 3D-printer later this year. The software will be open and the hardware-manufacturers plus others who are interested will be able toget licenses for free. The complete design of the printer will also be made public, in order to facilitate further develeopment and experimenting.
“The printer will be enabled to print a variety of materials, made by us and by others. We are looking forward to experiment with all kinds of new materials”, Carl Bass said. “The world is only just realising what the potential of 3D-printing is. With Spark we will give more people access to the posibilities. The coming months we will work with hardware-manufacturers on the integration of the Spark-platform with current and future 3D-printers.” If you want to contribute to Spark, you can register at www.autodesk.com/spark.
